May 14, 2016: I had the pleasure and honor to witness the advancement two Black Belt of two outstanding young students of the Sanchin Bushi Ryu Karate System.   Mr. Brendan Hopwood and Mr. Jonathan Harrison tested for their black belt showing excellent spirit, technique, and power which was witnessed by a large cadre of instructors of our system; in attendance from different parts of the country, Charleston, South Carolina, Apopka, Miramar & Ocala, Florida and Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.   Hanshi Frank Ramirez presided over the testing of the students which was conducted with the help of many senior instructors.   In attendance were: Kyoshi Tony Rosa, Kyoshi Dennis Deliz, Kyoshi Joe Rodriguez, Shihan David Helmick, Renshi Troy Ah Yo, Sensei Victor Parris, Sensei Alexis Agostini, and Sensei Dennis Sherman among others.   This testing was witnessed by the students’ families and fellow students and brothers of the Sanchin Bushi Brotherhood.   Renshi  Ah Yo directed the testing under the supervision of Hanshi. The students demonstrated excellent technique during the execution of their Kata.   The other instructors participated in the various drills and sparring sessions conducted with the students involving one or more attackers.   Kyoshi Tony Rosa questioned the students regarding the use and meaning of Kiai.   Through his questions they learned that Kiai was the focus of your power from your center, through your body, and the extension of that power to the point of impact of that final blow.    Kyoshi Deliz emphasized the need to protect your-self at all times and watch for other attackers.   Hanshi invited me to come to this advancement test to witness these young men demonstrate the knowledge and technique that this brotherhood has given them.   I am currently physically disabled due to a condition I contracted in August of last year.   Hanshi invited me to remind me of the strong bond that all of us have within this brotherhood.    Mr. Brendan and Mr. Jonathan are 2 young men that have been given a lifelong gift of learning martial arts from this prestigious group of men who have given their life to this art.   Thank  you Hanshi Yudansha’s for reminding me of the gift that you have given me of allowing me to train with this group of men, including the 2 outstanding young men who are the newest black belts in our system.   This will motivate me to get better and has given me a wonderful memory to cherish.
