Happy New Year to all!  A little late but, better late than never!  We hope that all brought the New Year in with Love, Peace & Prosperity.  We would like to mention that the event, Advancement/Seminar on December 17th, 2011, ran smoothly and the participants of the event showed their skills as they were asked to perform, kata’s’, techniques and kumite.  After the advancement portion of the day, we split up into four (4) work stations to teach the first few movements of Naihanshi Shodan Kata, each station would teach a different application of the kata, with the different styles participating:
Kyoshi Orlando Irizarri, Shotokan (ISKA), taught the movement of Naihanshi kata with the Zen philosophy of being first.  Sifu Lester Figueroa (Hung-Gar Kung-Fu) taught the movement out of a kata called “Chen-Cheung” but adapted the movement to Naihanshi Kata for the activity, trapping the front leg to front leg with take-down.  Shihan Joe Rodriguez, Sanchin Bushi, taught a basic sweep front-leg to front-leg with follow-up technique.  Renshi Marcos Ramos, Sanchin Bushi, taught Step in front-leg, hook-kick with follow-up hand(s).  We would like to thank the visiting instructors:  Kyoshi Irizarri, Sifu Figueroa, Shihan Rodriguez and Renshi Ramos for showing their professionalism and their expertise during the event.  We look forward to having them participate at future events.  A special thanks to Sensei Jery Lozada for the use of his Dojo for the activity.
